Jackie Mittoo, born Donat Roy Mittoo (March 3, 1948 – December 16, 1990), was a Jamaican-Canadian keyboardist, composer, and musical director whose work was foundational to the development of ska, rocksteady, and reggae. As a key figure at Studio One under Clement "Coxsone" Dodd, Mittoo’s song writing, arranging, organ and piano work shaped the sound of Jamaican music in the 1960s and 1970s. He was a member of seminal groups like The Skatalites, The Soul Vendors, and Sound Dimension, and his compositions and arrangements defined the Studio One sound.
"The Sniper" is a cool, jazzy laid back groove written by Jackie Mittoo that appears on The Jackie Mittoo Showcase and Showcase Volume 3. Smooth and deadly.
